In this age of rush, rush, rush there can be nothing nicer than “getting away from it all”.  The outdoors is all around us if we choose to take advantage of it.  Go, sit back, dream a little, and let the cares of the world pass you by.  Camping is a great activity that you can do in the great outdoors.  It will be the focus of this particular posting.

When you think of camping you might recall a motion picture that you saw in which people went to the great outdoors to “get away”, but ended up taking everything with them.  They felt that they couldn’t survive without the luxuries at home so they brought them along.  This is a big mistake as part of the joys of camping is going “back to the basics” if you will.  Learning to “rough it” will help you to realize just how much stuff you have in your daily life that you don’t really need.  Freeing up all this excess baggage in terms of daily goods means that you will be able to free  your mind as well.

You will need some basics though.  A good tent is a must-have if you are planning on staying overnight in the wilderness.  If you can’t afford one I’m sure that there is a friend nearby who is more than willing to lend you theirs.  Some sort of a cooler or container for food is also a necessity.  It will need to be appropriate to store enough food for how many days you plan to be away.  There is no need to store canned goods or non-perishables in it…so this means it can be even smaller.  A good knife or one of the  leatherman multi tools is a must-have for wilderness conditions.  Centering around a good pair of pliers or scissors, equipped with screwdrivers and other handy tools, they are there when you need them.

We would encourage you to take some time and go camping in the great outdoors.  It can be a life-changing experience.  When you come back to the “real world” of work and responsibility you will feel refreshed and better able to tackle all that comes your way.  Who knows, you might get bitten by the camping bug and find yourself in the great outdoors every weekend.  You tell two friends and they tell two friends and so on and so on.  Have Fun!
