How do I “run a cleaning patch” down the bore of a blackpowder rifle?
the rifle is a .50 caliber Kentucky Long Rifle , flintlock
Not trying to be sarcastic.
Not near enough information here.
If let say you just decided to do a routine clean up no that particular weapon, you should have a cleaning jag that you slip the cleaning oiled patch over to run it down the barrel.
But they do come off the jag quite often.
I prefer a bore swab also called a bore mop,
Please note if you are cleaning the weapon after shooting you have to SCRUB all powder residue out of and off of that weapon.
Black powder residue will destroy the weapon if not properly removed.
Why? Black powder and it’s powder substitutes create when fired a residue that is very corrosive once it draws any moister from the air or surroundings, it is a form of acid,
If you have never done that form of clean up before get on the web and search for BLACK POWDER weapon cleaning for it does not clean the same as the modern guns using non corrosive powder.
That is one of the largest short comings of the black powder weapons .
