The dog tracking “chip” How much is it?
We live on a farm and our dog often runs off. We were thinking of getting a tracking ‘chip’ put in him, like the animal rescue league does. Does anyone know approx what this will cost? And does it really work? how convenient is it?
So far all of these answers are great!! I guess I was confused on what the chip does. So someone has to either find the animal or has to get it to the vet in order to use the chip?? Is there a chip that is like a GPS locator so if he gets lost we can track where he is??
well, there is no way to “track” your dog with the chip if he gets out. But the micro chip will help if someone finds him. Pretty much every vetc clinic, shelter, humane society now has the equipment for the chip. If someone finds your dog, they take it to the local clinic and they scan the dogs back… between the shoulder blades…. and your info pops up on the screen and they can call you and tell you where your dog is. It is very inexpensive and most places will chip your pet when you adopt them for a little extra fee. It doesnt hurt the dog and it is a very good idea to get all your pets chipped. My dog is and it makes me feel a lot better knowing that if he ever gets out i wont have to search forever to find him.
